Apartment life: maintenance tips

August 21, 2019

Living at Summit Vista comes with many wonderful perks. Among the best of them is the ability to live completely maintenance-free. That’s right. Yard work, repairs, fix-it projects—we do it for you. However, if your independent nature refuses to let our maintenance crew handle everything, there are always little things you can do to help keep your apartment home running smoothly.

DISHWASHER AND GARBAGE DISPOSAL. Some people enjoy hand-washing their dishes. However, make sure you run your dishwasher at least once a month. Doing so will help keep the musty smells away. And speaking of smells, always turn on the water when you run the garbage disposal to flush food waste down the drain. If you continue having odor issues, try putting a lemon or lime wedge in there and run it.

CARPETS AND FLOORING. This may seem fairly obvious, but frequent vacuuming not only helps keep your home fresh and clean, it also keeps your carpet from becoming ruined by ground-in dirt. It’s also best to not shampoo your carpet yourself. Check with the maintenance team about cleaning options. Please also check for the best ways to clean laminate, tile, or wood flooring.

PLUMBING ISSUES. It’s always best to summon assistance with plumbing. After all, a lot can go south really quickly if you’re not careful. However, there are things you can do to minimize issues until help arrives, starting with finding the water supply valve and turning off the water (if needed). It’s also very helpful to clean up any standing water before maintenance arrives.

WHEN TO CALL MAINTENANCE. The simple answer is, call whenever you need us or have a question. We are at the ready to assist with anything. It’s our pleasure.
