Summit Vista And Intermountain Healthcare Announce Plan For Dedicated Health Services At Life Plan Community

October 25, 2016

August 10, 2016: Intermountain Healthcare and SelectHealth have entered into a letter of understanding to become the preferred provider of healthcare services at Summit Vista, a new life plan retirement community planned in Taylorsville. SelectHealth, Intermountain’s insurance arm, will also offer its Medicare Advantage plan to residents of the community.

Summit Vista, which launched its marketing efforts in January of this year, delivers a new model for retirement living to the Salt Lake and Utah markets. It is designed for active, independent seniors, offering a wide range of dining, exercise, social and learning opportunities for its residents. Summit Vista will also provide a full suite of maintenance, utility, security, and wellness services as well as the assurance of assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing facilities if those services are ever required by residents.

A key benefit of living at Summit Vista will be comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated healthcare on site. The core of this offering is a consistent relationship between the patient and his or her primary care physician starting at the preventative medicine level. Real case studies have shown that this deliberate, proactive strategy can improve an individual’s overall health. Mark Erickson, Managing Director of Summit Vista, notes, “In other parts of the country, it might have been difficult to find a healthcare provider that understands the value of this comprehensive approach. We are fortunate that Intermountain already understands the value of integrated healthcare and employs a substantial array of physicians and other health professionals, as well as offering clinics, hospitals and other ancillary services, to provide a new standard of excellence in healthcare for retirees and older seniors. Our ability to have SelectHealth Advantage as an available insurance option for our residents will enhance their ability to stay healthy and independent.”

Intermountain Healthcare is known locally, nationally, and internationally for its mission of “helping people live the healthiest lives possible.” Its focus on clinical excellence at the lowest sustainable cost has helped Utahans benefit from some of the very best healthcare results at the most affordable costs in the country. “One of the opportunities that our arrangement with Summit Vista will give us,” said Laura Kaiser, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Intermountain, “is a new environment in which to apply what we already know about effective healthcare for seniors and to become even better prepared to help Baby Boomers live and be healthy as they move into their retirement years.”

In the coming months, Intermountain, SelectHealth and Summit Vista will be working to finalize the terms of their relationship. Summit Vista plans to break ground on construction in late 2016 and offer first resident move-ins by early 2018. “We plan to offer a complete range of healthcare services to the first residents as of opening day,” said Erickson.

Intermountain Healthcare is a not-for-profit health system based in Salt Lake City. Recognized for its excellent clinical care and low costs, Intermountain strives to help people live the healthiest lives possible. For more information, visit www.intermountainhealthcare.org.

Summit Vista will be the first life plan community developed in the State of Utah in over 50 years. It will be located on approximately 105 acres of land in Taylorsville, near the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 6200 South. “We have worked with the City of Taylorsville to create the zoning and other entitlements for the project, which will be a great benefit to the city and the county,” said Mark Pace, VP at Gardner Company, one of the partners behind the project. At full occupancy, Summit Vista is zoned for 1,650 apartment homes and 300 assisted and skilled nursing apartments.
