Introducing Summit Vista: the First Life Plan Community in Utah

March 10, 2016

When Summit Vista opens its doors to its first residents, it will have brought something unique to the state of Utah: a Life Plan Community. It’s a retirement option that has become increasingly popular over the past few decades in other parts of the country because it offers a complete solution for the country’s growing numbers of active, independent seniors. Life Plan Communities, formerly known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities, offer their residents the security and convenience they need to pursue their passions without worrying about the future. Residents enjoy the active, independent lifestyle they want, while having the added security of knowing healthcare will be available when they want it. Not only is Summit Vista the first Life Plan Community in the state, it is the first community in the country to use the new term “Life Plan Community” in a TV commercial.

Summit Vista, which is ideally located in the heart of the Valley, in Taylorsville, will be the largest retirement community of its kind in the Western region of the United States. Bruce Reese, a managing director of Summit Life Plan Communities and former president and CEO of Bonneville International, says, “We are really building a small, resort-style town with all the services and amenities today’s active boomers and seniors are looking for! The 50,000 square foot clubhouse is symbolic of just how different our community will be.”

When completed, Summit Vista will be seven times the size of a typical retirement community. In addition to spacious, maintenance-free apartment homes with spectacular mountain views, residents will find restaurants, an all-season swimming pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a movie theater, library, a wellness center, bistro, walking trails and much, much more! And during the winter, residents will be able to access these amenities without ever having to take a step outside, thanks to the climate-controlled walkways that will connect all of the buildings on the 105-acre campus. Plus, they have the comfort of knowing that healthcare will be available onsite should they ever need it.

Summit Vista will have experienced leadership overseeing the community. Mark Erickson has been named a managing director of Summit Life Plan Communities, which will oversee Summit Vista’s development. Mark Erickson previously served as the COO and chief strategy officer of Erickson Retirement Communities. Summit Life Plan Communities, a Delaware LLC, is a venture formed by local developer The Gardner Company, New-York based iStar, and Methuselah Advisors. Summit Life Plan Communities is also the first corporation in the country to use the new “Life Plan Community” in their name!

Construction on Summit Vista is scheduled to begin in late 2016 and open in 2018, but the Information Center, which is located at 6183 S. Prairie View Drive, Suite 103A, Taylorsville, UT 84129, is now open, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Future residents are already placing priority deposits to secure their favorite floor plans. For those interested in learning more about Summit Vista, the community will be holding regularly-scheduled information sessions. Interested 62+ adults are asked to call (801) 895-2545 or to visit the Information Center.
